Shoreditch matures for the Olympic challenge...
Shoreditch
is an exciting and expanding area to the east, and adjoining, the City of London. It is a multi-cultural and diverse working and living area with many alternative leisure and pleasure experiences in pubs, clubs, restaurants, theatres, hotels, galleries and an ever expanding number of eclectic retail outlets alongside traditional street markets. Truly an experience.
It has matured from its early renaissance set in motion by artists
who homed in on a dowdy East End district in the early 90s
looking for cheap studio space. Still a centre for musicians, arts students, fashion designers and media creatives,
it's stopped being cool and its gotta' great life. Today
it's a thriving business community, more expensive, a popular social centre
... and most important it's become a community.
Tube, bus or taxi to Old Street tube station - the Gateway to Shoreditch and try one of the many pubs, clubs or restaurants. A short distance away you can find theatres (Hackney Empire, the Roundhouse and others). On Sunday mornings visit Columbia Road Flower Market followed by a traditional Sunday roast or East End pie & mash.
Shoreditch is set to become the 'social centre' for the Olympians in 2012 when they take time out from the track and from the Olympic village.
