Participating countries

Over 11,000 Olympians from 203 countries - see our country list below- will take part in the games.

In addition to the many hundreds of visitors to the games, an estimated 16,000 broadcasters and journalists will be in the area to provide services to, in excess of, 4 billion television viewers ... and that's great business and exposure for Shoreditch and Hoxton!

This is a complete listing of the 193 official countries of the world and their capitals. Afghanistan is the only country which does not participate in the games primarily because of the Taliban's restrictions on women. (The Olympic Charter forbids discrimination based on race, religion, politics, or sex.) However, now that the Taliban is no longer in charge, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) may allow Afghanistan to participate in future Olympic Games.
