SECURITY TIPS 'top ten' from local police

This is the message that will be delivered to would-be thieves in the Shoreditch Triangle within the next few weeks. Twenty five lamp post signs and two larger street signs will be posted warning of the operation that local police officers are undertaking in the Triangle.

This area is currently one of Hackney Borough’s hotspots for burglary offences and it is hoped that once businesses and residents install SmartWater crime will reduce.

Shoreditch Police has ordered and will supply free-of-charge 500 small SmartWater kits that may be used for domestic and small business premises. Larger companies can be referred to SmartWater if they are interested in purchasing the larger business kits. Again, over the next few weeks officers will be delivering and registering the 500 kits to the Triangle folk.

So what is SmartWater?
SmartWater is a company that produces a forensic marking system designed to provide police with evidence of either a suspect's involvement in a particular crime or the ownership of recovered stolen property.

Each file of SmartWater Instant contains a unique forensic code which is assigned to a particular premises.

Hundreds of laser particles - smaller than a grain of salt - have been included which have the formula reference code etched onto them.

By using a simple hand held microscope, a police officer can identify the code and trace the owner of the marked property through the SmartWater database.
