East
London Design Show returns
to Shoreditch Town Hall ...
In
its tenth year, the East London Design Show (ELDS)
returned to its original home last year at the magnificent
freshly restored Shoreditch Town Hall and included a
special charity launch party in aid of World Aids Day.
The
ELDS reflects work by contemporary designer-makers
at its best, with products including furniture, lighting,
rugs, cushions, textiles, vessels, vases, glassware,
crockery and cutlery, jewellery, bags, belts, shoes,
hats and scarves alongside artists’ limited editions.

Taking
place in the area with the richest concentration of
artists and designers in the UK, emerging and established
designers apply to take part and are handpicked for
the quality of their products. Many designers use the
show to launch new products and December sees designs
yet to reach the shops.
Established in 1994 by glassmaker Della Tinsley, the
East London Design Show was started to give a public
platform to her own and other new designers' work. The
show first came to notice when it moved from Della Tinsley's
studio to Shoreditch Town Hall.
When
the Shoreditch Town Hall eventually gained lottery
funding for its refurbishment, the ELDS moved around
several interesting venues in East London (Circus Space,
Rich Mix Centre, Atlantis Gallery/Truman Brewery).
But now the ELDS has returned to The Shoreditch Town
Hall, where it was born a decade ago, to celebrate
10 years of design and creativity in East London.
